A Halloween Tradition

This weekend was so wonderful. Because I have two beautiful, fun-loving and bold women in my life who, collectively, travelled about 30 hours just to come crash at my home, and eat pizza and Greek food and donuts, and ride a ghost train AND hit up a haunted house, and mini-roadtrip up to the mountains, and talk about politics and feminism and the Jonas Brothers with me for two and a half days.
Turns out, you actually DO make really important, life-long friends in university...who would've guessed?!
Christina, Chalace and I all met at school, all separately, until one fateful Halloween brought us together on the couch of a random classmate, surrounded by very intoxicated strangers, who prompted us to leave the party ASAP and end up in a cozy little pizza shop with enough food to feed the army of costumed zombies and flapper-girls passing by. That night was filled with laughter, talks of school work and social justice, and an incredible amount of pesto sauce.
Fast-foward to almost exactly one year later, and we've found ourselves in the same cozy pizza place; just as much laughter, 3 university degrees, the same fiery passion for justice, and a couple fresh, doughy pies.
And life is good.
This weekend, although short, was extra sweet (and I'm not just saying that because of all the candy Chalace managed to find and consume 😉). Because this weekend gave me the opportunity to spend time with two people that I care about, after months of being apart, almost without skipping a beat. This weekend reminded me that real, true, good people exist, and when you're lucky enough to have them in your life, you never have to worry about distance or time, because they're always going to be comfortable sleeping on your couch (or your floor), if it means you'll get some quality time together.
Because of these two this weekend, my heart is happy and full...of sugar...and donuts...and souvlaki...and the aforementioned pizza 🍕.
Happy Halloweekend, homies.
