New Year, New Decade, New Socks.

I don't know if it's because everyone and their dog has been posting a "2019 has been...." paragraph on their social media pages for the last week and I'm over it, or if it's because I'm still sad about the fact that the only face I want to smooch at midnight is 869km away from me, but either way - I'm really just not feeling any need to recap this past year, let alone the last decade.
Don't get me wrong - this morning, over a breakfast chat with my sister and my sweet niece baby Maeve, I realized that like, a LOT has gone down over the last 10 years for me.
I finished high school, graduated with a degree from university, moved to the middle of nowhere, bought a house, almost died but didn't (twice...), filled my life with sweet fur-babies, met a man who makes the world seem a little brighter, became an auntie, watched my best friend, my brother marry the girl of his dreams, discovered what I *really* want to do with my life, quit many jobs, started building a new career...
I am not a woman who can complain. And I won't.
But maybe, just this year, I will enter the next 365 days quietly - with the west coast rain pouring outside my window, alone but because *I* have chosen to be. A little sad, but also very grateful.
Maybe, just this year, I will move into 2020, into this new decade, without any goals or resolutions, but rather a promise to myself that I will work hard and live in positivity*, not just for me but for this perfect furry family that I have and want to keep forever. 🧔🏻🐶🐱.
*this one is hard for me, I am constantly trying.
So maybe, just this year, I will leave you with a short and sweet little post, and a reminder that tomorrow is just a day like any other day - squeeze the people that you love when you see them, tell them how much you love them, go to work, go to the movies, eat your vegetables, eat your ice cream, cry when you're sad, pet all the dogs, go on vacation, celebrate your birthday, pay your taxes, call your mom and live your life and always say thank you.
Happy 2020, I'm sure it'll be one for the books.
XO,
Jessica*.
